Field trips

Three different field trips are proposed to participants. This will take them to various locations of great interest for rockfall management and rockfall protection experts!

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required upon registration to the workshop.

 

 Field trip #1: Pont en Royans and the Gorges de la Bourne

  • Rockfall mitigation strategy of a touristic village at the toe of a cliff  
  • Rockfall protection with flexible barriers along country roads in various constrained geological contexts

       Keywords: flexible barriers design; installation and maintenance; touristic village; expropriation.

 

 Field trip #2:  Grenoble conurbation

  • Protection of the Ripaillère hamlet against large rockfall
  • Rockfall protection of an industrial zone after a forest fire, in the Voreppe municipality

      Keywords : risk management strategies; rockall protection embankments and flexible barriers; rock blasting;  protection forest; forest fire.

 

 Field trip #3: The Romanche Valley

  • The Séchilienne 6 million cubic meters rock mass instability. (this visit requires a 45-minute walk there and back, max).
  • Rockfall protection of a critical hydropower plant in the municipality of Gavet.

        Keywords: very large rock mass instability; containment ditch; river diversion; long term monitoring; power plant protection; draperies and flexible barriers.

 

Also note that:

  • The number of places for each trip being limited, the "First come, first served" rule may apply.
  • The estimated return time after the trips is 18:00.
